Gerard Mulot, a master patissier, boulanger and chocolatier, has been part of every one of my visits to Paris. I am a creature of habit, so my usual routine is to check into a hotel or, preferably a rented Parisian apartment, unpack quickly and head out the door. I make my way down rue de Seine, smile once I see the pink van parked in front of the Gerard Mulot store, and suck in as much of the bakery scent as I can.
I gaze at the cakes arranged by the window, see some new pastries in the cases on the right, pass all the delicious looking salads, terrines, pates, sandwiches, and head straight to the back where freshly baked baguettes are calling my name. I always get the baguette tradition (more on baguettes later).
A real beauty.
I do spend a lot of time just looking at the tempting treats on the racks near the window display, at that moment I feel that I belong in Paris.
This apricot tart was one of the most wonderful fruit creations I have ever tasted, too bad that it can't be available year round.
I like to buy a couple of different pastries and enjoy them at the Luxembourg Garden, which is a short walk away.
While visiting Paris in February a couple of years ago, I took photos of Mulot's beautiful Valentine's Day creations.
These look really tempting, maybe next time.
