British Air, Premium Economy

I have been a loyal British Air/Open Skies customer for quite a long time, and am not an overly picky person, but I really did not care much for this premium economy class. Thankfully, the flight from JFK to Heathrow was under six hours, and since it was a day flight, I felt no pressure to squeeze in a couple of hours of sleep in the seats that do not differ that much from regular economy class. The configuration in the premium economy cabin is 2-4-2, the pitch is 38" and the width 18.5".  The pitch in economy class is 31", width is 17.5", and business class is 72" and 20". A small pillow, blanket, a very basic amenity bag, and headphones were waiting for each passenger. I really feel that airlines, short of dragging a bleeding passenger off their plane, can get away with pretty much anything.  The floor space on this flight was ridiculous.  My choice was to either place my carryon in the overhead bin for the duration of the flight, or fig...

EL AL Business Class, 787- Dreamliner

Although we really enjoyed the business class on one of EL AL's  older planes, we were excitedly anticipating our flight on their brand new Dreamliner.  Currently, there are four Dreamliners in EL AL's fleet. We breezed through check-in at Ben-Gurion airport since there is a separate business and first class check-in area, in a smaller room to the right of the large departures hall. Within minutes we were walking into the quiet lounge that had plenty of comfortable seats, a well stocked food area with salads, breads, a few hot options and drinks. We boarded the plane with great excitement. There are 32 lie-flat seats in the business class cabin which is arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. In the center section the odd numbered rows have seats that are close together, while seats in the even numbered rows are positioned further apart for more privacy. A pillow, blanket, bottle of water and an amenity kit were waiting for us at the seat. The spacious bin for ...

ELAL Business Class

We have been flying ELAL for almost thirty years, and are big fans of the airline.  Yes, at times the service will come with a side of sass, or we will experience that special customer appreciation I have come to love in Eastern Europe.  Over the years, however, ELAL made great strides in improving the service as well as updating their airplanes.  This past October their new Boeing 787 Dreamliner (one of seventeen that the airline has ordered), began flying between Newark and Tel Aviv.  Over the many years of flying with ELAL we have learned that the pre-Passover flights tend to be a loud mess and we will get very little sleep. We have experienced tight seats in the economy  section where a heavy set guy would lean heavily on the back of our seat and yell to his wife while inches away from our ears.  We have been instructed by various grandmothers who were not related to us that whatever we were doing with our kids was the wrong way to be doing it....
