While visiting Paris our preference is to stay in an apartment. I love the freedom of having my own space, the ability of making breakfast, or an occasional dinner, being able to store boxes filled with gorgeous pastries in the fridge and having a week or longer to live like a local. There are minuses to that arrangement; I am the one making the bed, cleaning, washing the dishes, etc. I would not recommend an apartment to someone visiting Paris, or any city, for the first time. There is a great sense of security that comes with a whole staff ready to help with restaurant reservations, taxi calls and general touring and eating suggestions. But, of course, one can get all that done with the help of a strong WIFI. On a few occasions, when visiting for just a couple of days, we stayed in hotels. I prefer small, boutique places rather than huge Hilton/Hyatt type hotels. There is nothing wrong with those large hotels but I just like more of an intimate setting where I can chat with the people at the front desk and get personalized attention. Also, I find that small hotels have more character and personality.
We began this trip by staying at a lovely Hotel Luxembourg Parc. Due to last minute changes, our apartment was not going to be ready for another day, so we decided to book one night at this hotel. I have walked by Hotel Luxembourg Parc many times and have always admired its location and charm.
The lobby is very charming, clean and inviting.
Fabienne, a lovely woman at the front desk, was super helpful and nice.
Downstairs there is a decent workout room.
I had the classic room (about 200 square feet), which was very clean, well appointed, but most importantly, ready by 11am! Tired after a sleepless flight, we were able to take a little nap before venturing out for the day. There are a total of 23 rooms at the hotel.
The space is on the smaller side, but that's Europe. Large rooms, especially in small hotels are hard to come by.
The window faced rue de Vaugirard and the Luxembourg Garden. Rue de Vaugirard is not a terribly busy street but it does get steady traffic, however, the double glazed windows insulated the sound very nicely.
There was no hair conditioner, but that could have been an omission by the cleaning staff.
Some other small hotels that we have really liked are:
La Tremoille
14 rue de la Tremoille
Le Senat
10 rue de Vaugirard
Hotel de Buci
22 rue de Buci
and
Hotel Luxembourg Parc
42 rue de Vaugirard
