In a city so packed with spectacular department stores, shops and boutiques, ABC Carpet & Home is truly one of a kind.
We have been coming to ABC for many years; sometimes to shop but mostly to browse, to admire and to ooooh and ahhhh. I love that I discover something new with each visit.
This beautiful building in Manhattan's Flatiron district greets almost a million visitors each year. ABC Carpet & Home has a very typical to NYC beginning; an immigrant's story. In 1897, Sam Weinrib, an Austrian immigrant was selling used carpeting and linoleum from a cart on the Lower East Side. Over the years his carpet business went from one generation to another, changing locations in the process, and it finally settled in the current building in 1961. In 1988 ABC began to sell furniture, antiques and reproductions. Now, the store still sells carpeting, furniture and so much more.
The ground level is my favorite, it is a magical and dreamy place.
I could spend hours just looking, touching and smelling, it is a playground for all the senses.
Sometimes you feel like a darling and sometimes, well....you don't, but now there is a cup for that.
They don't just sell kitchenware, they set up a table that would make any woman swoon.
There is a wonderful beauty department filled with very good quality products that are not easily found in other stores.
How adorable are these pillows?
Beautiful and very delicate jewelry.
The clothing department had some really gorgeous pieces but all very expensive. A summer dress that I fell in love with was over $900, ouch.
I like to take the elevator all the way up and walk down the stairs while popping in to see what is on each floor.
I love the chipped paint, the old wood and the exposed pipes.
Even the staircase is really cool.
