Our first lunch in Zurich was at the Sternen Grill, well, our second lunch was there as well........
This was the place for the best wurst, haha.
Sternen Grill is great for lunch or a small dinner. Orders are placed at the counter and there are plenty of tables inside and outside. They accept cash only and the rolls are free with any purchase.
They also have a separate counter that serves as a bar selling beer and wine.
The wursts were delicious, perfectly seasoned and had nice crispy skin. The German potato salad was also a hit, the rolls had a very hard crust.
Dinner that evening was at the Kronenhalle, a Zurich institution. Kronenhalle opened in 1924 and it soon became the meeting place for artists, writers and musicians. Among the more notable regulars were: YSL, Coco Chanel, Chagall, Miro, Matisse, Picasso, Joyce, Einstein and Freud. Some of them used to pay with artwork, especially Picasso.
There are magnificent works of art on display at the Kronenhalle. Sitting next to a beautiful Chagall lithograph really elevates the dining experience.
The veal rosti became my favorite meal while traveling through Switzerland, naturally, I needed to see how Kronenhalle held up to the competition. They fared very well, the veal was tender, well seasoned and the sauce not too creamy. My husband enjoyed the gigantic schnitzel which was delicious and not greasy.
This gorgeous sink station was in the hallway outside of the WC.
Our dinner at Kronenhalle was lovely. The restaurant is a true gem, with delicious, well prepared food, extremely professional service and an old world vibe.
