Many years ago I walked by this place and noticed an enticing sweet smell in the air. I went inside this factory like looking store and tasted that first doughnut. After the second bite, I knew that I would be their very loyal customer. Today the Doughnut plant enjoys a great following, the store got a much needed facelift, multiplied throughout NYC and even opened in Tokyo and Seoul.
I think that what drew me in initially was that the doughnut reminded me so much of my beloved Polish paczek, a jam filled doughnut hugely popular in Poland.
I appreciate that at the Doughnut Plant there is an emphasis on high quality ingredients. They make their own jam filling, don't use preservatives, eggs or artificial flavors. If I am consuming a billion calories let them be delicious and of high quality, haha.
Morning is usually best for the biggest selection, although they do make more throughout the day, once the supplies start dwindling down. This photo was taken at noon.
I like that they respect their product and the customer by carefully packaging the doughnuts.
This peanut butter and jam is delicious and the crunch of the peanuts is an added bonus.
Peaches and cream
Raspberry and cream
Besides the regular doughnut with jam, this is my all time favorite. It is the creme brulee, a little heaven in your mouth. The dough is perfection, the shot of creme brulee inside and the crunch of the sugar shell coating create one awesome doughnut.
