I remember coming here years ago when the only tenants were a flower shop, a bakery and the Bowery Kitchen. Now, this is a fantastic space filled with restaurants and small food places. It is very reminiscent of a European Food Hall in a high end department store.
This once was the National Biscuit Company Factory where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced. While I am not a fan of the Oreo cookie, I am a strong supporter of updating grand, beautiful buildings and making them purposeful again.
The market is very creatively designed with really interesting details like sculptures, exposed pipes, wrought iron accents and stone carvings.
There are many stores selling clothing, fun and creative souvenirs, good quality chocolate, wine and kitchen ware. There is even a pop up gallery with interesting art exhibitions.
I like how they incorporate the old with the new.
This store had the look of an Israeli bazaar
I was thrilled to see a store with different flavors of halva.
Amy's Bread has been one of my favorites for many years now. It is a great place for a cup of tea or coffee and something sweet.
This store had the most adorable cookies.
They had cookies for every occasion, all nicely packaged.
I got some doughnuts at Doughnuttery.
They were delicious BUT tiny and one dollar per piece for a teeny tiny doughnut is really pushing it.
Chelsea Market is a wonderful place for lunch, dinner or a snack. It is a must see when visiting NYC.
