Initially we were just going to come to this area for lunch at Le Deck but after seeing some of the photos of Lavaux I booked a room for one night. Lavaux is a UNESCO world heritage site.
We checked into Le Baron Tavarnier in Chexbres in the heart of the Lavaux Region.
It was a beautiful day so we decided to go for a long walk and get familiar with the area. This was our first time here.
I have seen my share of stunning sites all over the world but his view just took my breath away.
Photos cannot do justice to the magnificence of this place, this is jaw dropping, heart stopping beauty.
The Lavaux Region is over two thousand acres spread over 23 communities between Lausanne and Chateau de Chillon. Wine has been produced in this area since the Roman times but the terraces were built by the monks in the 11th Century.
I learned that the vineyards benefit from three heat sources: direct sun, mirrored reflections from Lake Geneva and the heat stored in the many stone walls. That is why this area is called the "Land of three suns".
We were so high up, the cars looked like toys.
We saw this ride from hell, which I guess is used to transport picked grapes but it looked like a nightmare!
A photograph cannot convey neither the drop nor the angle of this hell ride. Whoever does this must be totally fearless and not impressed on roller coasters. I had nightmares of being on this thing.
