We chatted with the host of Popina who highly recommended this restaurant. So, we decided to try it for lunch.
I forgot to take photos of the outside and inside, so I'll try to describe it. Habasta is a small restaurant/wine bar located on a pedestrian street just steps from the Carmel Market. The space has a rustic feel with old wooden tables and mismatched chairs. The servers are all trendy, young, hipsterish types, but very courteous and helpful. There was a mix up with my main course and they were very apologetic.
The menu changes often, and there is a nice variety of dishes offered. This is a great market-to-table restaurant, with a clear attention to wholesome ingredients and creative combinations. If I lived in Tel Aviv, this would become my go-to place.
While in Israel in noticed a really cool thing, they place two napkins on the table; one for the lap and one to remain on the table for the utensils. Why is this not done in New York?
We ordered a couple of small sides
The green leaf and the beetroot salads were delicious.
My son loved his pork shwarma with grilled onions.
Hubby enjoyed the shrimp plancha
All of the breads were awesome, as was the butter, which tasted homemade.
My fish and chips were fresh and lovely.
Highly recommended
