The drive from Lavaux Region to Murren was noting short of spectacular. With each turn, the most stunning scenery of this gorgeous country was taking our breath away. We passed vibrant green trees, freshly plowed fields, cows grazing, still waters of small lakes and beautifully ages chalets.
A few times, we actually pulled over and got out of the car to appreciate and soak it all in.
After a drive that lasted a little under two hours, we got to Lauterbrunnen and left our car in the parking garage. Murren is a car free area so all of the visitors must leave their cars either in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg.
We took a cable car to Grutschalp and a small train to Murren.
The views from the cable car were magnificent. You could tell which people have been here before, they were the only ones talking, everyone else stood in silent awe.
We checked into hotel Edelweiss, a small family run place with clean and well appointed rooms.
This was the view from our balcony! If we just got to see this while in Murren, it would have been enough. We just sat and listened to the birds chirp from the trees below us, and watched the occasional paraglider zoom by the hotel.
Be aware that while the view from the balcony is magnificent, it is not for those skittish about heights.
This is the view slightly to the right of the balcony. I tried to sit on the balcony, whenever we happened to be in the room. How lucky are the locals who get to see this on daily basis? Do they still notice the magnificence of their surroundings?
