Woke up this morning with a major bagel and lox cravings. So, not wanting to waste precious calories on just any bagel and lox, I decided to head to the best: Russ & Daughters on the lower east side
I am not reinventing the wheel here, everyone knows about this place.
In 1907, Joel Russ, a Polish Jew, started out by selling strings of Polish mushrooms that he carried on his shoulders. In 1914 he saved up enough money to open his first store. He started to sell salt cured herring and salmon.
Today, we all get to see the fourth generation of the Russ family operate the business.
Russ & Daughters is quintessential New York. This is the place for the best smoked fish, many types of cream cheese, latkes, chopped liver and other delicacies.
The Irish smoked salmon is my personal favorite.
Yummy cheese blitzes.
I like to pop these potato latkes into the oven to crisp them up a bit.
Their chocolate babka is delicious, I warm it up before serving.
This is something new, must try it next time!!
We also love their chocolate-orange rugelach.
This should hit the spot.
